Mantra meditation predates Buddhism, probably by hundreds of years. The origins of mantras go back at least to the Vedic tradition that preceded the Buddha, where mantras were used as incantations to influence, or even to control, the gods.
Basically these are words or phrases that are repeated over and over. You don't have to use Buddhist mantras or any other religion. You can use your own mantras. Some examples are set out below. The key to chanting the mantras is to focus, and the words themselves are a kind of empowerment. These must always be used for the better good, otherwise if you choose to use a negative mantra, you must be aware of Karmic law that applies to all things in the universe. If a positive mantra is used for the better good, not only will that person receive the positive affects, but you will also. If a negative mantra is used, the other person etc will not receive the affects but you will, as you were responsible for putting it out there in the first place.
With the mantras below, or if you choose to use your own. Simply relax ,get into a medative state, and chant out loud or within yourself the mantra 10-30 times a day. say it slowly and mean it with your heart.
There are many powerful and beautiful mantras you can find online from various cultures and religions. Here we have kept them basic, we hope they help in some way. If you find an affective mantra please do contact us and we will add it to this page.
